Walking the Road: Pastoral Care the the Road to Emmaus
Friday 23rd August, 7pm - 9pm (Option for dinner available at 6pm)
Venue: St Pauls Trinity Pacific, 45 Fitzgerald Avenue, Christchurch
Pastoral care of others is a journey. In this workshop we will be using the story from Luke 24:13–35 (The Road to Emmaus) as a guide to care for people and help them discern the work of Christ in their life. We will consider the movements in the story of the Road to Emmaus and how this provides us with a lens to life and faith. The workshop will equip you with a means to accompany people in various situations and walk at their pace. The workshop is suitable for people who are new to pastoral care or experienced in this ministry.
Preaching from the Old Testament: Learning from the Book of Esther
Saturday 24th August, 9.30am - 3pm (Lunch and Morning Tea Provided)
Venue: St Pauls Trinity Pacific, 45 Fitzgerald Avenue, Christchurch
This workshop will introduce you to an approach to study, prepare, and preach from Old Testament stories. The material is entirely drawn from the Book of Esther and provides a model for you to engage with any other story in the Old Testament.
The story of Esther is especially helpful as it involves a search for the presence of God in the midst of grave threat. Esther’s story is exhilarating, revelatory, and inspiring. Her story will deepen how you read many of the familiar Bible stories.
The workshop is suitable for emerging and experienced preachers
